On behalf of CLiP (Crowned Lion Innovative Pictures):

CLiP is Columbia University’s student-run filmmaking organization dedicated to hands-on creative education. While Columbia’s undergraduate Film & Media Studies program emphasizes theory, history, and critical analysis, CLiP exists to complement that academic foundation with real, practical filmmaking experience.

CLiP provides the applied side of film education, bringing together writers, directors, producers, cinematographers, editors, and performers to make films, not just study them. Through collaborative production, students translate Columbia’s Ivy League classroom learning into tangible creative work.

To take the first step into CLiP, students are invited to participate in our flagship program, the Film Forge.

The Film Forge is a three-week film sprint where teams of Columbia filmmakers are formed and given a shared set of creative elements—such as a genre, prop, specific shot, location, and piece of dialogue—that serve as constraints designed to spark originality. Within that framework, teams write, shoot, and edit original films from start to finish, culminating in a campus red carpet premiere and awards.

Students interested in learning more about the Film Forge and getting involved with CLiP are encouraged to attend our upcoming Info Session.

Info Session:

  • February 2

  • Hamilton 602

  • 8:00 PM

For students seeking to pair rigorous academic study with hands-on filmmaking, CLiP serves as the bridge between theory and practice, and a home for Columbia’s next generation of filmmakers and performers.
